To Declare Christ - July 2010

“And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ...” Colossians 4:3

Sometimes life can become so busy that we fail to pause and take note if our lives are declaring Christ to those around us. Lately, our lives have been crazy busy! We calculated that between the two of us we have been to 16 states in the US in the last 5 months and covered at least 12,500 miles! But why? What has been our purpose in being so busy? It is this: we know that God has a plan for our life and right now that is to be in Tarapoto, Peru declaring Christ to the Peruvians. So, we have been busy for this purpose!

Here's a little of what we've been up to these last few months!

Friend-raising

We finished up sharing in churches and with individuals on May 9^th . A huge “THANK YOU” goes out to those who had us come share in their church, youth group, or home. We loved seeing old friends and meeting new ones. Thank you for your encouragement, prayers, and financial support. We look forward to seeing you all again in a few years.

Wedding

On the most beautiful summer day, we were married in Lewistown, Montana. June 5^th was our big day and, though it was filled with busyness, we will never forget the beauty of being united as one in Christ for the rest of our life. Afterwards, we enjoyed our honeymoon on the beautiful Oregon Coast.

We'd like to extend our deepest gratitude to our parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, cousins, and friends who gave so very much to make our wedding day the most special day. Thank you all so much!

Peru

We departed from Salt Lake City, UT for Lima, Peru on July 1^st and arrived in Lima early in the morning on July 2^nd . We stayed in Lima from July 2^nd until July 8^th then we headed to Tarapoto arriving here on July 8^th in the late evening

Paperwork

The main focus of our time in Lima was paperwork. Jonathan renewed his resident card and Bethany applied for her resident card. These cards allow us to live here in Peru as residences which is great for missionary work!

We also enjoyed shopping for our home and spending time with friends in Lima.

Setting up home in Tarapoto

Soon after we arrived in Tarapoto ,we began setting up our house. Jonathan had continued renting his place here while he was in the States so we had a house waiting for us when we arrived! We have really enjoyed setting up our home together and are excited for God to use it to declare Christ.

Ministry to come

As we look to the future of the ministry here in Tarapoto, some changes are going to be taking effect very soon. Delwin and Techy Fowler, our fellow missionaries, are heading back to the States mid-August because of family paperwork. They will be returning in about 9 months. We would really appreciate your prayers for the church here and for us during that time. We will be very busy with working in the church and Spanish lessons. Pray that we would not become weary but lean on God daily for all our strength. Pray also for a young couple, Daniel and Mattie Melendez, who will be coming to help in the church for about 3 months during this time. Please also pray for more laborers to come here soon to help in declaring Christ to the Peruvians. Thank you in advance for your prayers for us!

Declare the Mystery
"And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message,
so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, . . . " Colossians 4:3a

"Declare the Mystery"speaking of sharing the precious Good News of our Lord Jesus Christ.

On a lighter note, but a mystery as well for sometime, God has been working in His perfect timing. Ecclesiastes 3:11a "He has made everything beautiful in its time." With that I want to share some very wonderful news that has remained a mystery because of things needing to come in proper order and also because of busyness. She is God's gift.

God's Gift -- James 1:17
"Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows."

God's gift – God brought a very godly and beautiful young lady, Bethany Estell, into my life very directly near the end of July and we began to date in early August. It is wonderful to see how God brought her some 4,000 miles around the world to Peru. We had met briefly in my time before going to Guyana while I was at Frontier School of the Bible.
It was God who brought her in His time because I was quite blind. It was through God using outside testimony of two couples from the Tentmaker Bible Mission family that really got me thinking about Bethany. Praise to God for His timing.
Engagement – God has continued to direct and He lead me to return to the States for a few months to have the opportunity to share in churches about ministry and encourage fellow believers, Lord willing. However, the main reason behind coming back was to get to know Bethany better. We got engaged very shortly after I landed at Salt Lake City International Airport.

The best way for you all to get to know her is for her to share with you a little bit about herself. So, meet Bethany. . .

Bethany --

Hello to all of you!!! It is great to e-meet you :) It has been a pleasure to meet some of you in person and I look forward to meeting the rest of you in the future!

My name is Bethany Estell and I was raised in rural Montana. When I was just 6 years old, I trusted Christ as my Savior during a family devotion time. I was raised in a Christian home which God used to grow me close to Him during my growing up years. At the age of 10, I gave my life to Jesus. I let Him know that He could do with me whatever it was His desire to do. It was at this time that I really sensed God moving my heart toward a love and passion for the foreign missionfield! God really fed my desire to be a missionary through reading missionary biographies, going on a missions trip to Mexico, and getting involved in missions here in the U.S.

At age 18 I had to make that fun but difficult decision of where to go to college! By God's direction and guidance, I applied and was accepted to Frontier School of the Bible. I will graduate from FSB in May, 2010 (this year!!:) God has kept my focus on missions steady throughout the 3 years of Bible school. One way He did this was by sending me to Peru during the summer of 2009. God gave me a very realistic view of missions that summer. It was also during this time in Peru that I traveled to Tarapoto where Delwin and Techy Fowler and Jonathan (my fiance:) minister! The time spent in Delwin and Techy's home and in watching Jonathan minister there was tremendous! Not only did I get to glimpse what God is doing there but also. . .

God gives so wonderfully --

During the week I spent in Tarapoto, God brought Jonathan and I together! Praise be to Him!! Isn't He so good to us? Jonathan is such a amazing answer to so many prayers and yet, he is much more than I ever asked for!! "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above and comes down from the Father of light with whom there is no variableness neither shadow of turning." James 1:17

As of now I am working on joining Tentmakers Bible Mission and we're planning a June 5^th, 2010 wedding! Life is crazy but very good at this point!

Just wanna leave you all with a verse that God has used to encourage me and keep me going!

"I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go; I will guide thee with mine eye."

Psalm 32:8

God's Opportunities –

Travel – Thank you all so much for your prayers and support during the flying and the many travels of sharing in churches. Through the flying God provided different opportunities but the one that lingers the longest was the opportunity to share with a young man in the Lima, Peru Airport. He was waiting for a friend and was somewhat at wit's end. He couldn't go home till a couple more days due to finances, etc. and didn't want to ask his parents for money to get him home sooner. We talked for quite some time while waiting for his friend. Lord willing, the seed of the Good News of salvation in Jesus Christ was planted. Please continue to pray for more opportunities for us in sharing the good news of salvation in Jesus Christ.

Frontier School of the Bible
Praise to God for the opportunity to be closer to Bethany during this time of great change. I'm based out of LaGrange, WY out of the Tentmakers Bible Missions Headquarters. I'm so thankful for a place to stay close by. Also for the opportunity to spend time with my brother, Jeremiah, and other Bible School students and teachers.

Greetings in Jesus Christ! Praise God for the New Year upon us.

Ministry:

Baptism – God gave the wonderful opportunity for Daniel Melendez and myself to be able to baptize 7 believers from the Community Bible Church. The young men were Sergio, Abraham, Lucas, and Marcos and the ladies were Katy, Paola, and Patty. Patty was so courageous as she stepped forward by telling of her faith in Jesus Christ, why because of her religious background. Praise to God for this courage He gives.

Bible studies – God gave the opportunity to teach in two Bible studies in Spanish while Pastor Delwin was on a short vacation in Lima. The first one was a Wednesday evening one where we looked briefly at humility in Philippians 2:3-8. The second opportunity was a Thursday evening men's Bible study where we looked briefly at Colossians 2:6-10. It was wonderful to hear brother Hugo emphasize that we must beware with His voice as we looked at the command of "Beware" in verse 8. This passage addresses the truths that we must walk in Christ, we must beware of false teaching, and we are complete in Christ.
Sharing the good news of Jesus Christ – God gave the opportunity to talk more with Frank, my Spanish teacher. He opened up more but I'm still uncertain about his salvation.
I so want to see him in heaven some day. There were also opportunities to talk with Techy (to the left) who works for Santo (to the right), the philosopher and I also got to talk with two of her nieces. Please pray for Santo who expressed that he and his wife Rosa would like to do a Bible study like when I get back from the U.S. Praise to God! Continued on next page . . .

Getting ready for Travels:

The delay for this newsletter is because of the excitement of the trip ahead and the many things to do in preparation for it. Just to let you know, I will continue renting my home in Peru because of its close location to the missionaries' (Fowler's) home, and its good renting price. The other factor is that then there will be a home to come settle right back into. Also, such things as telephone and internet can be a bit harder to get set up and running here in Peru. Therefore, since I already have these in this home I will continue to rent. Please be in prayer for the home and its protection during that time. Some of the things I brought to Peru will remain here as well as some of the things that I have bought to set up the house (Which, by the way, has a way to go but one step at a time).

Travels to United States and Back (roughly February 4^th – June)

Lord willing, on February 4^th I will begin my journey to my parents' home in Sigurd, Utah. It will start on the 4^th at, roughly, 12:55PM. The journey will include 4 different airplanes and various layovers. I will, Lord willing, arrive in Salt Lake City International Airport around 8:06PM on February 5^th. Then, I'll still have another 3 hours in the car before arriving at their home sometime later that evening, depending on all that happens. I would appreciate your prayers as this will then begin my friend raising/deputation schedule. That same weekend we have, roughly, an 11 hour drive to LaGrange, Wyoming where, Lord willing, I'll get to be involved in the missions conference. Thank you so much for praying. Lord willing, I will be returning to Peru sometime in the month of June.

Friend Raising/Deputation

This is when a missionary visits different churches to share about the ministry they are involved with. Often missionaries are supported through gifts of faith from local churches and individuals. Thank you so much for supporting the ministry of God through these feeble hands and feet.

Lord willing, I'll be visiting churches and individuals in Utah, Wyoming, Colorado, Nebraska, Nevada, Montana, Wisconsin, and Michigan. I'm looking forward to the ministry opportunities, the wonderful times to get to know more and more Brothers and Sisters in Christ and the privilege of meeting new people along the way. Please pray for this time of sharing and for opportunities to share the good news of Jesus Christ along the way.

Praise:

For God's working in my life during these 7-8 months on the field.
For God's wonderful provisions.
For opportunities God has given to share His Word.
For the increase in Spanish understanding.

Pray:

For Delwin, Techy, and Vikki as they continue to minister in Tarapoto, Peru.
For travel to the states and for travel in the states.
For God's provision through His children by means of friend raising/deputation.
For evangelism opportunities in the planes, in the airports, on the road, visiting, and all along the way.
For the salvation of Frank my spanish teacher, Santo, the philosopher, and his wife Rosa and Techy (not to be confused with Pastor Delwin's wife, Techy), who works for Santo and Rosa.
For continued learning and growing in Spanish.
For me as I readjust to a different culture and as I as "Goodbye" to the people here, for a time.

Christmas in Peru

December is a bit different in the hilly jungle of Peru. Instead of snow it is one of our hottest months. There is a tradition here to have a midnight supper on the 24^th of December. Our local plaza is full of motocars decked out like sleighs with cutout reindeer. To the right is a picture of one. Much like in the states, many are caught up in the materialism which tries to sweep away the true meaning of Christmas. Jesus, King of kings, came to earth, and he humbled himself by becoming a man. He became God in flesh. (John 1:1,2,12,14) I hope we all, especially myself, look to the King of kings throughout this season and remember Him. Remember God is with Us – Emmanuel (Matthew 1:21-23).

Preaching/Teaching Opportunity

Thank you all so very much for your prayers throughout the time that I taught/preached at the church here. I taught lessons based on Dr. Richard Seymour's notes. A basic outline of what I taught follows: 1. The Requirement of God: Perfection, The Righteousness of God (Psalms 5:4); 2. The Need of Man: He is sinner, not perfect like God, not righteous like God (Ecclesiastes 7:20); 3. The Provision of God: His Son, Our Saviour, and Salvation by Grace (2 Corinthians 5:21); 4. The Response of Man: Believe in Jesus Christ (Acts 16:30,31; John 3:16); 5. The Guarantee of God: Eternal life to those that believe in Jesus Christ (1 John 5:9-13). We did a quiz before and after these lessons to see what people understood about salvation.Many people understood the salvation message better after the lessons! We also handed out a slip of paper with many verses showing that salvation is by belief/faith in Jesus Christ alone. If you are

The Pueblo (Village) Churuzapa

12/5/2009 Youth Group Mission trip. To the right and left are some pictures of some of the youth that went. This was a good trip for all who went. Mainly the youth performed a drama about who and who not to date as a believer in Christ. Many youth are not taught, and do not take dating seriously.There is a danger to date someone who doesn't believe in Jesus Christ. Also, briefly included in the drama the importance to keep yourself pure. Another point on dating is that there really is no point to date unless you are ready for marriage because this is the end goal of dating/courting. Pastor Delwin taught a lesson on how we should study the Word of God, and used the hand as an illustration. He used the fingers to illustrate 5 points to recall while studying the Bible. They are as follows: 1. The pinky finger -- Examples to follow; 2. Ring -- Commands to Obey; 3. Middle -- Sins to Confess; 4. Index -- Promises to Claim; 5. Thumb – Truths. He tied his message back into the drama by talking about being pure by looking at the promise in 1 Corinthians 10:12,13. These verses explains God has always given a way of escape from temptation. Brother Ricardo at some point during the program shared a special song. Thank you for your prayers, please continue to pray for the youth group to grow in the Lord. Praise to God for

the trip with the youth, and others that went.
12/19/2009 Chocolatada is a time when hot chocolate is served with a fluffy cake like bread called Paneton. To the left is a little guy that is eating some panetone with his hot chocolate. Dip in and chow down! Also some gifts were given out along with some donated clothes. Various ones from the church came to help out and it was a wonderful time of bonding together. It was a fun time full of getting rained on along the way, getting sunburned, and getting to see God's people serving! Praise to God to hear the wordless book explained to the children by Pastor Delwin's wife, Techy with the assistance of a couple youth Katy and Paola throughout the program. I had an opportunity to share a little with some guys about the Bible. At times, in these conversations, I realize how much further there is to go in Spanish learning. Please continue to pray for more and more understanding of the Spanish language. To the right are some of the ladies that helped out from our church, and some little children from the village. Also here is a cute little girl with her little doll that she got as a gift. Sometimes their hair turns blondish because of mal-nourishment. You can also see Pastor Delwin with Lucas, Marcos and three of their friends on the bench. Please continue to pray for the church in reaching out to those around us.

God's Open Doors (Thank you for praying for open doors!)

With Frank my Spanish teacher. Please pray for Frank's salvation. Monday thru Thursday we are in Acts. We continue to read in the Bible in order to expand my vocabulary, give me examples of Spanish in my mind, etc. We also are going through a local devotional article by a church in the area. This provides opportunities to see local "evangelical" cultural understanding of the Bible and also to see where there are areas the church needs to grow. Please pray for people here to rely on the Word of God instead of traditions. Even some believers in Jesus Christ are still very tied into traditions that are

within the church.
Other opportunities: Please pray for other opportunities such as with Daniel. I talked to him a couple times at a market. He opened up to me a bit. I hope more opportunities will come. Pray for my love to grow more and more for the people. The gospel needs to be shared in love.

He associates himself with a church that tries to hold onto the law. Many do not understand Romans 10:4 and the book of Galatians. It is important for believers in Jesus Christ to remember that we are not under the law. As believers we are made righteous by faith not by works, please read Galatians 3.

Please pray for more opportunities to share the message of salvation in Jesus Christ. I need the words

and the boldness to do so (Ephesians 6:18-20).

Praise & Prayer:

Prayer - Pray for future church leaders. To the left is men's Bible study, and, hopefully, future leaders. Left to right: brother Hugo, brother Sergio, Pastor Delwin and a brother I fondly call Papi Ricardo.
Prayer - Please continue to pray for my learning of Spanish. I so hope to be fluent someday. This may seem impossible before I head to the states but, in God's hands, it is possible. Please pray for fluency by February 4^th. I hope to continue to study while state side. I want to hit the ground running with Spanish. We'll see what God does.
Prayer for upcoming trip to the USA. I'll be leaving on February 5^th and, Lord willing, coming back to Peru in June. Need prayer for planning and preparation for this. Pray for many open doors to share in churches, any opportunties God may bring, and His provision for ministry. This is coming up quickly and while I am waiting to go various doors here may close so please pray that I will buy up the time each day. (Colossians 4:5,6)
Praise for God's provision for each day and for the future. Thank you all so much for your prayers, and how you give out of love toward the ministry here.
Praise for the Spanish learned. There is much to go but it is wonderful to be able to talk more and more with people.
Prayer for an unspoken request, hopefully soon more to be made known, please pray for God's wisdom and direction.

To bring a smile to your face this Christmas. I included the picture on the right! Poor critter! :)

Visiting Pueblos (Villages) Oct 19th - 24th:

Ministry: The week started off early Monday morning as I got into a pickup that would take me to San Hilarion where Brother Augusto lived. Throughout the week, Brother Augusto and I went on his motorcycle from pueblo to pueblo. Sometimes we spent the night at his home and other times elsewhere. It was a time filled with meeting pastors and believers in the villages. Also, I was privileged to see Brother Augusto at work as an encourager and edifier. The open houses and visiting reminded me of Bible times when the disciples were sent out. Throughout the trip many were very hospitable, and often, a meal was eaten at each stop. Above is Brother Augusto, his wife and two of his six children.

On Monday a good portion of time was with Augusto's brother, a pastor of one year, who was serving in Chimbote. Tuesday found us mostly in Paujilzapa were Brother Augusto preached and where we spent the night. On Wednesday, we got sunburned from all our time on the motorcycle as we visited more villages. I even got to see part of an adobe house construction project. Brother Augusto's wife and family were very very kind to me. We spent several meals together. Thursday found us headed to Nueva Lima. On the way, we visited a family in Bellavista. Here Brother Augusto encouraged the wife of Brother Milton. Because she has migraines, Brother Augusto encouraged her by using some of the things his own wife was going through as an illustration. We also visited the pastor of the two churches in Nueva Lima. The picture to the left is me with the pastor of Nueva Lima to the left of me, and a native missionary, Pedro, to the right of me. That night we spent in the quarter of a brother while he slept someplace else, hospitality abounded, he had given up own bed. On Friday, we rose early to visit two more villages, and passed back through Bellavista again, visiting the same family there. Their son knew some English - what a gift during a week where almost all communication was in Spanish! We went to Juanjui and Zaposoa before returning to San Hilarion that night. That evening we got to see Brother Eulogio indicate that he wanted to follow God once again! The joy of this was evidenced on so many faces! I came back home Saturday morning with my new mascot (shown in this picture) who was soon to become Marcos, Lucas, and Sarah's bunny. I also returned with a better understanding of Spanish and culture in the pueblos. I have much to learn from their hospitality. God was saying throughout the time, "listen, listen, listen." I want to listen to their hearts, to the Spanish, and to more. Are we listening daily to those around us?
Culture: Here is a cultural setting in the pueblos: The rain is falling outside, and a few chickens have huddled under a motorcycle for some shelter. The ground squishes under your feet as you cautiously step toward a shelter. You approach a little area with a fence of sorts and a few people linger outside. You enter a rough shelter. The doors hang on their hinges at different angles. You enter the dark room and are given a chair near the back. Next to you are some bags with clothing - perhaps this is like a dresser. You sit down and so does Brother Augusto. He lets the man of the house (you suppose) listen to a DVD for a bit. On the way in you saw a 12-volt car battery on the floor below a table that holds the DVD player. Nearby is a boom-box (radio). By rigging the DVD player to the battery and using the boom-box, those that live in this shelter with no electricity can listen to DVDs! The ingenuity in the jungle is striking. The importance of entertainment is apparent, and the lack of wealth is revealed. And yet the door was open for us to come in and sit down out of the rain. This is life in some parts of the hilly jungles of Peru.

Spanish with Frank:

Learning: My Spanish comprehension is increasing bit by bit. Some days it seems there is so much more to learn of grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary. Recently we looked at 4 past tenses in Spanish. A bright spot in these studies - besides grasping more and more - is often reading the Bible in Spanish with my teacher.
Opportunity: A while back, Delwin suggested reading the Bible in Spanish with my teacher, Frank. Since that time we have completed reading through San Juan (John) and now started into Hechos (Acts). I'm encouraged when Frank asks questions or when there are opportunities to explain from the Word of God or what something means. One of these times was explaining the phrase, “It is finished.” It does not just mean Jesus died. It also refers to His work related to paying for sin which was completed on the cross. Praise be to God that sin is paid for! Have you receive that payment by believing in Jesus Christ alone? (John 1:12) Do you trust that He is God? Do you trust that He died for your sins? Or are you rejecting Jesus? Do Please pray for my wisdom to know when to share. Sometimes I feel that the excitement of wanting to explain the Word of God causes me say too much, and other times I feel like I don't say enough. God has also caused my Spanish learning to progress to a new level. First, I got to teach at the Bible Institute, and now God has given me preaching/teaching opportunities in Spanish on the same series in the church. Praise to God!

Teaching/Preaching in Spanish:

This past Sunday, November 8^th, I preached (in a teaching format) my first sermon in front of the church in Spanish. Praise be to God for this step forward in my language knowledge! Please pray for my clarity in Spanish, that the message of salvation in Jesus Christ would come across very clearly. Lord willing, I will be teaching/preaching for the next 4 Sundays. Thank you so much for bringing the ministry here before God in prayer, and for your continued provision to the ministry.

Greetings in the precious name of Jesus Christ,

A new month is upon us. Thank you so much for your prayers and support for ministry through the month of September. On Thursday, as I was talking with Pastor Samuel during the Bible Institute, I had the opportunity to explain about being here. He asked if people were supporting me, and I explained that I was the “hand and feet” and you all (supporters) are the “body.” Thank you for being behind the ministry here. It is because of you all that ministry is possible physically and spiritually. Those who are praying before God are the powerhouse behind the ministry. I need this and the ministry needs your prayers and support. Thank you so much.

There are four areas I'd love to share with you: Spanish Classes, Bible Institute, the Future and Prayer Requests.

Spanish Classes:

I had asked during the month of September to be in prayer for the evangelism lessons that my Spanish teacher, Frank, was helping me translate. Your prayers before God were answered wonderfully! He helped me translate them which provided an opportunity for him to hear them and hopefully think about them. We had 5 lessons to go through. Frank basically translated the first lesson while I sat there and watched. With the second lesson, I tried translating it a bit on my own. Then I brought it to class and he corrected it, which taught me more about Spanish than only having him translate it. So for the next few weeks while going through Spanish classes, we worked on translating the rest of the lessons. This time has also included some reading from the Bible in Spanish. We are reading through the book of John. However something caused the translation and study of the evangelism lessons to speed up. We had thought the Bible Institute was the 2^nd week in October but no! It was the end of September and the first few days of October. This sped up the translation process and in the week before the Bible Institute began, God brought about another wonderful answer to prayer. Not only did Frank help me translate the remaining lessons, but I also got to practice-teach the lessons to him.

At the end of each lesson there is a point to ask the students, “Do you have any questions about the lesson?” Frank had a few very good questions. At the end of the 2^nd lesson he asked, “how can one received the grace of God?” A great question, because this is the only way we can enter heaven. We have to be perfect like God – righteous like God. I told him we would soon be talking about this in the next lesson, which we got into on that same day! We talked about God's provision, Jesus Christ. Only because Jesus Christ died on the cross, only through His blood can we be seen as righteous in the eyes of God – not because of our own righteousness but only because of Jesus' blood. 2 Corinthians 5:21 says: “ For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” However, we must receive that righteousness. There is only one way to receive the righteousness of God, and we covered that in the 4^th lesson, which I also got to practice-teach to Frank. We receive the righteousness of God only by belief in Jesus Christ. Please read John 1:12: “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name” this is a wonderful verse for explaining this concept. It says we need to receive Jesus. Next, a promise is given to those who receive Jesus. Then it describes how we receive Jesus Christ – only by belief in His name. Often, unfortunately, this verse is read with the word “and” inserted such as receive and believe, but it does not have the word “and”! We must not add to the Word of God. After the 4^th lesson Frank asked, “How is a sinner changed to have the righteousness of God, or to be righteous like God?” The change is because of the blood of Jesus Christ! Philippians 3:9 says: “and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith” The word “faith” here has the same idea as the word “believe.” Praise God for Jesus dying in our place! We receive this righteousness of Jesus by believing He is 100% God and 100% Man and that He died for our sins. We believe in Him alone. Another word similar to faith, and belief is trust we trust in Him alone for salvation – nothing more, nothing less, nothing else! Thank you so much for your prayers. The next week was the Bible Institute which we turn to next.

Bible Institute:

The topics Pastor Delwin taught on were Evangelism and Discipleship. I had the opportunity to teach those 5 lessons on Evangelism, that Frank helped translate, as well, praise to God! The first day we had 9 students in class. On Wednesday the 10^th student was also there. If you look in the title picture of this newsletter you will see the 10 students. Here are their names from left to right in order:

To the right you can see Pastor Delwin teaching. He is a great encouragement to me in ministry here. We often enjoy times talking together about ministry and various things. A point that Pastor Delwin taught from his discipleship lessons, that stuck in my mind through this week was: We as believers can always be teaching someone else younger in the faith. We can be passing down what we know. Let me show you this through two pictures.

Here Pastor Delwin is explaining to Pastor Samuel how to use a specific Study Bible that Delwin had brought for him. This is a form of Discipleship. Pastor Delwin is teaching Pastor Samuel.

Samuel above is the Pastor of Arquimedes and Joel. Pastor Samuel was probably involved in these two men coming to the Bible Institute. Arquimedes (on the left) has 1 year in the faith. His son Joel (on the right) has 4 months in the faith. Perhaps Arquimedes plays a significant role in his son's life. We all can play a significant role in someone's life by discipling them in the Christian walk. (“Christian” meaning one who trusts only in Jesus Christ for salvation. “Walk” being the life lived after belief in Jesus Christ.)

I enjoyed my time of teaching. I taught roughly one hour each day which varied from day to day. It was energizing for me as can be attested. I have a long ways to go in Spanish, and need to study more about pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary. However, the students were kind to me, many listened quite well, and many helped here and there with pronunciation, and reading the Bible verses. We started the week off with a quiz that I had been given in my personal evangelism class when I was in Frontier School of the Bible. (I and another missionary, John Cook, used this quiz in Guyana, and added a bit to it.) The questions then got translated into Spanish and used here in Peru. I challenge you to think about these questions: 1. What are the things I must do to make sure I will one day end up in heaven? 2. Why does man die? 3. What happens to man after death? 4. Who is Jesus Christ? 5. What did Jesus Christ do for you? After the quiz it was evident that much work was needed to clear up confusion in sharing the gospel. It was encouraging at the end of the week to hand out the quiz again and get much clearer answers from many of the students.

Class was interesting as we looked at various verses about salvation in the Bible that can be confusing. But the wonderful thing about the Word of God is that over and over, it points back to this simple concept: Believe in Jesus Christ alone for salvation! There are 160 such verses. If you would like to have a list of these verses please let me know. This information is from a wonderful book on evangelism called Fishing for Men by Dr. Richard Seymour. Please know that we as men can be confused by what we think are contradictions in the Bible. We should write down our questions and continue to seek out the answers in the Bible. Know there are no contradictions in the Bible – it is simply that we don't understand the Bible completely.

Thank you again so much for praying for this week. It was a great encouragement, and I look forward to future opportunities. Please pray for those future opportunities.

Future:
In the future, I may get to teach these lessons in the church. Please pray for my Spanish pronunciation, vocabulary and understanding to increase. I look forward to going with Pastor Delwin on November 19-21^st to a pastor's conference in an area about 2 hours from here. It will be enjoyable to get to know more of the men in this area of Peru.

I'm praying about coming back to the states in February for more deputation, and, Lord willing, for something else that I hope to share about later on. Please pray for wisdom in this decision and for God's direction. If you would even now start praying for opportunities to share in churches, Bible studies, youth groups, Sunday school classes, barbecues etc. If God would have me come, I would appreciate your prayers in this area so much!

God's guidance for the future

Church ministry to grow spiritually and physically.

For me to understand more and more the role of serving as a missionary/pastor. I have so much to learn and I am so inadequate in myself. This ministry is only possible through the strength of Jesus Christ which Pastor Delwin reminded me of and also a very important person in my life reminded me of as well, specifically through these verses: 2 Corinthians 3:5,6: “Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God, who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.” Believers, we were saved by grace through faith – not of ourselves. Why do we often think we can go it alone in the Christian walk? We need God! Our sufficiency is from God!

Greetings to those on bended knees,
Thank you so much for praying and I continue to ask for your prayers.
Today was my second day of getting to teach in the Bible Institute in
Spanish. I taught roughly 1hr. and 10mins today. I'm going through notes
based off of teaching by
Dr. Richard Seymour. We have completed lesson 3. Please pray for
tomorrows lesson, lesson 4 is the central focus of the lessons. I hear
from Pastor Delwin that they are understanding, this is a praise and
answer to prayer! Plus Pastor Delwin is there to help me when I don't
know a word in spanish or say something wrong. The students help with my
spanish pronunciation as well.
Please pray for the students understanding of the content of the
lessons. Please pray that it will grab a hold of them and propel them to
go out and share the good news of Jesus Christ. There are 10 students in
the class, below are their names. They range from pastors in churches,
younger men in the church, and to a lady as well. They represent between
4-5 different churches.

A clarification on a phrase in my last email.

"When we believe in Jesus Christ God no longer sees are sins but He sees the blood of Jesus Christ." (Sorry bad grammar are should be our)
    Let me clarify the portion "God no longer sees our sins"
    This is related to eternal salvation. In light of eternity the price for our sins have been paid. In this aspect God does not see our sin the believer in Jesus Christ is saved from the
penalty of sin. To illustrate this: You are the son or daughter of your Father. You will always be this.
    Please note in the life of a believer we are sinners saved by grace. We have the power of sin in our life because we do still sin. 1 John 1:9 is what we are to
do when we sin the believer in Jesus Christ is to acknowledge our sin before God. The believer is saved from the power of sin.
In this aspect God sees our sin. Let me illustrate. Even when you sin as a believer there is consequences for
sin. Back to the illustration of a Father, son or daughter. You may hurt, disobey, sin against your Father the relationship is hurt which has its effects but you are still his son or daughter.
    The third form of the word salvation the believers in Jesus Christ is saved from the presence of sin. This only happens with the believer in Jesus Christ when we are with Jesus face to face the believer
will no longer have sin in our lives.
The three forms of the word salvation are:
    1. Salvation from the Penalty of sin -- Happens at the moment of belief in Jesus Christ ALONE. (God no longer sees our sin in light of the eternal penalty of sin -- Eternal Death) John 1:12 We become                                                           children of God at this moment.
    2. Salvation from the Power of sin -- This happens when we acknowledge are sin before God. 1 John 1:9 Restored fellowship
    3. Salvation from the Presence of sin -- This happens when we are before Jesus Christ. Hebrews 9:28; 1 John 3:2; Philippians 3:21
    Three other words that represent these same statements are.
       1. Justification -- salvation from the penalty of sin. John 1:12
       2. Sanctification -- salvation from the power of sin. 1 John 1:9
       3. Glorification -- salvation from the presence of sin. Hebrews 9:28; 1 John 3:2; Philippians 3:21

In light of the conversation on salvation the phrase "When we believe in Jesus Christ God no longer sees are sins but He sees the blood of Jesus Christ." is important because this is what happens
at the moment of salvation the other two forms of salvation are only for believers!

To those on bended knees before God

Thank you for your prayers in Jesus Christ,
    Today we completed lesson 4. Man's Response: Believe in Jesus Christ. Then we did lesson 5. God's Guarantee: Eternal life to those who believe in Jesus Christ.
Please note if I've not said it already these lesson are based directly from some notes by my Bible school professor. Dr. Richard Seymour.
At the end of lesson 5 I asked again if there was questions about the lesson. My Spanish teacher Frank asked something like these words. How is a sinner changed to have
the righteousness of God, or to be righteous like God. I illustrated that it is Jesus blood. Let me explain the illustration in detail.
    When we believe in Jesus Christ God no longer sees are sins but He sees the blood of Jesus Christ. Before we believe we are seen as sinners by God. Jesus Christ died on
the cross for our sins his payment for our sins is available to be received. It is a free gift waiting to be received. How do we receive it? By believing in Jesus Christ, He is God,
by believing He died on the cross for our sins, was buried, and rose again from the dead proving He is God. Over and over throughout the Bible salvation is by belief! Not
a factual belief in the fact of Jesus being a man, dying on the cross. But the trusting belief that Jesus died on the cross in our place, that we are trusting in HIM ALONE not
in our works! Works are great things but they can never gain us entrance into heaven! They are not part of salvation! John 3:16; John 3:18; John 3:36; John 6:47 and many more .verses. . .
    We had talked about this through the lessons. Frank said the lessons were understandable he said also because he went through them 2 times. (He helped me translate them as well, and then
practice teach them) Please pray He will not only truly understand but that he will believe in Jesus Christ ALONE for salvation. What about you? What do you trust in for getting to heaven? Before you answer make sure you know what GOD requires, remember He requires perfection the perfection of God, how do we get that? Open up your Bible Galatians 2:16; Romans 4:2-5; Romans 10:3,4
    I hope many more opportunities will come to share with Frank, and many more here. Thank you for your prayers dear believers in Jesus Christ. The prayer of a righteous man James 5:16 avails much.
But remember it is the prayer of a righteous man that avails much, there is only one way to be righteous in God's eyes! Romans 4:3 For what does the Scripture say? "ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS ACCOUNTED TO HIM FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS."

Update on praying for my Spanish teacher Frank

Greetings in Christ to those on bended knees,
I want to thank you so much for your prayers regarding my Spanish
teacher Frank.
I would still appreciate your prayers greatly.
Yesterday I got to practice teach 2 lessons to my teacher Frank.
(These are evangelism lesson for the Bible Institute)
I really enjoyed the time I've much to learn but very grateful for this
opportunity.
Today I got to teach the 3rd lesson, and part of the 4th. At the end
of the 3rd lesson when I asked if there is questions
about the lesson. If I remember correctly He asked how one received the
grace of God. I let him know we
would be looking at that in the next lesson. Which we started into the
next which was lesson 4 soon after that. The only reason I wasn't
able to finish teaching it today was because I ran out of time.
Please be praying for tomorrow, I'll finish up lesson 4 and then
lesson 5 Lord willing. Please pray for Frank's salvation.
Those lessons specifically again are:
1. God's Requirement: Perfection, the righteousness of God
2. Man's Need: He is Sinful, not Perfect or Righteous like God.
3. God's Provision: His Son, our Savior and Salvation by Grace.
4. Man's Response: Believe in Christ.
5. God's Guarantee: Eternal life to those who believe in Christ.

To Live is Christ -- Carné de Extranjería, Spanish, Culture, Home, and more . . .

Carné de Extranjería:
Praise be to God, I am now a “foreign Peruvian”! Near the end of August I received my Carné de Extranjería which is like a yearly visa. This is something I need to renew yearly but it is good for an indefinite amount of time. Thank you so much for praying about this. I went to Lima, Peru, to complete the paperwork, and while there, I stayed with Heber, who is Techy Fowler’s brother. He is a wonderful brother in Christ who helped me greatly in getting my Carné de Extranjería. To the right is a picture of us together.

Spanish:
Classes: My classes are Monday through Thursday, from 8:00 am to 9:15 am each day. This is a good schedule because it helps me rise earlier in the day, which helps me make more of each day I’m here. The walk to class is roughly 13-14 quadrants (about 20 minutes), and it gives me time to think and pray. It also gives me some exercise and allows me to interact with people along the way. The other cool thing is that when I'm done with class, I'm not too far from the market where Mamita Asucena cooks. She is the mother-in-law of Delwin Fowler. Here I can get a wonderful meal and have opportunities to talk with people in Spanish.

Teacher: My teacher’s name is Frank. He is a man that teaches several languages such as English, German, Portuguese, French, and Spanish – perhaps more. However, he is also a man who is missing the most important thing in life and that is salvation in Jesus Christ. Please pray for his salvation. There is hope while we live, but once we die, if we have not believed in Jesus Christ, there is no more hope. (2 Samuel 14:14) God is providing wonderful opportunities to share Christ through such things as reading the Bible and through the Bible lessons Frank is helping me translate.

Translating: Frank is helping me translate evangelism lessons to be used at the Bible Institute of the AIENOP Association. These lessons are based on notes from one of my professors at Frontier School of the Bible, Dr. Richard Seymour. They also incorporate other resources such as By This Name – a book from Goodseed.com which I recommend. These lessons have the following five points:
1. God's Requirement: Perfection, the righteousness of God
2. Man's Need: He is sinful, not perfect or righteous like God.
3. God's Provision: His Son, our Savior and salvation by grace.
4. Man's Response: Believe in Christ.
5. God's Guarantee: Eternal life to those who believe in Christ.

Please pray that I would be ready to share these Bible lessons at the Bible Institute on September 28^th – October 2^nd. I would love to be able to teach them in Spanish and be able to really explain the lessons from an outline. By doing so, I could connect much better with my audience and adjust my lessons as I see various things come up. Frank is helping with this translation work, and God is providing wonderful opportunities to share. For example, while translating, the words “redemption” and “propitiation” came up. The word “redemption” means “to be bought out of” with the idea of being freed. Redemption points out that we are bought out of sin by Jesus' blood. “Propitiation” means “satisfied payment.” It points out that because of Jesus' death on the cross, His blood satisfied God's justice. We discussed these words, and in other areas I had opportunities to explain illustrations to him. Please pray that Frank is thinking deeply about these things.
Reading: I am currently reading through the Gospel of John with Frank, too. This has provided opportunities to input comments here and there and ask questions about the culture. I want to know what Frank thinks about religious topics without asking him directly. For example, I asked Frank about the concept of “born of water” as stated in John 3:5: “Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.” He responded that much of the Peruvian culture looks at it as water baptism, and he seemed confused that it could mean anything else. This gave me the opportunity to point out the next verse: “That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.” I briefly mentioned that when we are born of flesh there is water in our birth, referring to physical birth. We as readers will see what Jesus says next: “that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.” This is referring to the moment of salvation. The moment of being born of the Spirit is when you trust in Jesus Christ alone for salvation. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16 Please pray for more opportunities like this and for Frank to understand more and more.

Culture:
I've been reading some books to help gain insights into the local culture. Only Imagine and It's a Jungle Out There are the first two of four I’m looking at. There is much “religiosity” here in the city. In the tribal areas, there is much worship of spirits, and I'm sure there is superstitions as well. “Who is Jesus Christ?” is a question to ask. Is He man, a great teacher, or is He the LORD GOD? What do you believe, and what is the culture belief here in Peru? These are things I want to learn more about and learning about the Peruvian culture will help greatly.

A cultural tidbit is that it is important in pueblos to use simple terms. Complicated terms will be lost on the hearers. This is why clarity is so important in sharing the gospel. For example, when we say you need to “receive Jesus Christ,” we leave much left to the hearer. Many here believe they receive Christ every time they partake of bread in their meetings. We need to explain how we receive Christ according to the Bible, and we must not leave what we mean to say up to them to figure out. We must tell them what we mean! “But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,” John 1:12 We receive Jesus Christ by believing in His name alone. A name has two parts Who/Identity – Who is Jesus Christ? – God (John 1:1,14,17) and What/History What has Jesus Christ done for you? – Died for you on the cross, was buried, and rose again the 3^rd day proving He is God – (1 Corinthians 15:1-4.) We must be very clear!

I also had the opportunity to go with two friends from church to a motocross near Tarapoto. This was a fun time with Renato and Richard. Please be in prayer for more opportunities to connect like this with people. Renato is a young man in the youth group. Here he is on the right holding a bottle of Inca-Cola – a Peruvian pop.

Home:
On Thursday evenings at 9:00 pm, we have a Men's Bible Study in my home. We meet later in the day to help accommodate those that are working. Pastor Delwin is teaching and we are hoping to use this as a time to look for future leaders. On Saturdays at my home we have Youth Group at 5:30 pm. Missionary Vikki is teaching on dating and courtship. Please be in prayer for these meetings, and that my home would be a usable tool in ministry. I am so thankful for this gift from God.

Praises:
Speaking of my home, I praise God for the provision of not only the apartment itself, but also the items inside that have been given or lent to me. In the picture to the left, you can see my kitchen and dining area with several of these items. Mamita Asucena, a believer in the church here, lent me a table, pots, pans, etc., and gave me some plates. Praise God for her tender heart of giving. I eat with her from time to time in the market, and she often spoils me. Thank you, too, for your support of me that has allowed me to purchase other things I need to live and minister here!

I also continue to praise God for Pastor Delwin and his wife Techy who are so very kind to me and who open their house so I can use the internet. They also feed me a lot and I’m so thankful for that! Please pray for me that I will be a blessing to those who have so often blessed me in ways I cannot repay.

-Property for the church.
-Property for a camp.
-Church leaders: elders, deacons, and a future native pastor.
-Missionaries: There is much to do here, and we cannot do it alone. We need more missionaries to help teach in a Bible institute, plant more churches, and probably much more than we know. Please be praying for this need. I believe God may be directing another person to serve here please pray for God's continue hand of direction for this possible future missionary.

Will You Commit to Moral Purity? Job 31:1
Greetings in the name of our most Precious Saviour Jesus Christ,
Life has been exciting and especially busy during July. I flew into
Tarapoto, Peru on June 19th. I moved into my Peruvian house on July 4th.
That same day the youth held a concert participating in this was a joy;
singing, and preaching through a translator. The team from Canada
arrived on July 8th which brought about an exciting, busy schedule. To
the right is a picture with the team, from left to right in the picture
stands Josh, Crystal, Jorge (a local, not with the team who helped at
different times) next is Jeremy, Camille, Blair, Tabitha,and then in
the lower row kneeling Shayla, Katie, and Kayla. The three men from the
team Josh, Jeremy, and Blair lived with me in my house, praise to God
for the opportunity for housing ministry already!
The team shared the gospel in many programs while they
were here from July 8th through August 5th. These programs where in
plazas, in churches, in cities and in pueblitos. The team impacted our
area in a wonderful way, the ages in the team ranged from 16 to 25, this
shows you can serve God at a young age. In the photo off on the left is
one of the cities they shared in, Tabaloso. I appreciated the
opportunity to get to know the the team members and especially the men,
and to be the chauffeur often for the team. We enjoyed many wonderful
times together; serving, relaxing, and growing in the Lord. To the right
is a photo enjoying God's creation. We hiked to a water fall with
various ones from within and without the church. At the time of this
picture my friend Bethany, from Frontier School of the Bible, was
visiting. She is in green and blue to the left of the picture. There is
a wonderful story behind the days she visited. However this story must
wait for another time.
The greatest impact that remained from the team, purity in the
church. They put together a special program on purity. They challenged
the youth, the church, and myself to commit to purity. Through
purchasing purity rings the team encouraged us, and these will help
remind us of our commitment. Eleven from the youth group came forward in
this commitment. Others came forward including myself. You can see
Renato, a godly young man from the youth group, with Delwin to the left.
Each person that made the commitment, signed, and dated the commitment
with Pastor Delwin signing it as well. This took place before the church
body,and many parents. Here is the commitment. "Today I commit . . . To
living a pure and holy life for Jesus Christ. I will be sexually
abstinent until the day I enter into a Biblical marriage relationship. I
also commit to being set apart for Christ with my mind, my actions, and
a life that honors God. I recognize that I will need the help of others
in this decision. I need others to hold me accountable and pray for me.
I trust that I will be able to keep this commitment through the power of
Jesus Christ."
We must be pure in our actions, but not only there also in our mind.
2 Corinthians 10:5 " . . . bringing every thought into captivity to
the obedience of Christ . . ." As we step day by day through life, it
isn't about the rules, and boundaries but about actively living a life
pleasing to God. Jeremy shared that we shouldn´t come up to the line but
run away from the line. 2 Peter 1:2-11 "But also for this very reason,
giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to
knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance
godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness
love. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither
barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For he
who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has
forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins." (5-9) These verses
describe active steps for living a life for Christ. Verse 9 is a
wonderful reminder that the believer has been cleansed from past sin,
please don't walk in them anymore! If failed in purity you can still
make the commitment to be pure from now on. Psalms 32 is an encourage
portion of scripture related to this. Here is the purity ring I was
given, thank you so much. Inside is engraved 2 Pedro 1:2-11 or in
English 2 Peter 1:2-11 a selection of verses Bethany had shared with me
at just the right time. Now I leave the commitment in your hands what
will you do? Will you be pure before God?

Prayer Requests:
I travel to Lima on August 24th through the 28th to complete my
Foreigners Card.
For Spanish studies to start soon.
God's will to be worked out in my life day by day.
God to bring more people to serve here and soon; locals, and from abroad.
Church property: God's provision for a land to build on, and the
finances for this.

Praises:
VTI Team - effects of the programs, the purity program, and how God
used them in our lives.
God's amazing timing and speed. His strength in bringing me to do
things outside of my comfort zone.
God's forgiveness 1 John 1:9; Psalm 103:12. God is truly amazing
beyond our imagination.
God uses us to serve Him. Colossians 4:5,6
God's provision through His people, thank you for your faith. 2
Corinthians 5:7

Update - delay

Sorry for the update delay, it will be a bit more until the team

Greetings from Tarapoto, Perú,
The title photo is a sunset here in Tarapoto. The photo to the right
is looking at a park, plaza across from Heber's apartment in Lima. The
one below is looking up the street from his apartment where we would
often go to catch a taxi or mototaxi. However often Heber´s friend Kike
would pick us up in his taxi at the door. I enjoyed the time in Lima
especially getting to see the business of Heber. He has a catering
business serving weddings, birthdays, parties, etc. Also getting to know
others in the apartments and those that live with Heber like
Falú.
Thank you so much for praying, it is a praise to God to be back here
in Tarapoto, my body is readjusting to the climate. God provided the
opportunity to get to know young adults and youth from the area on
Wednesday the 24th a holiday. We went to the river and for food had
Juanes (rice, chicken, egg, and an olive; cooked and then wrapped in
some leaves and boiled). A jungle sack lunch. Here is a picture before
we went swimming. In the forefront is Christian, next row; left to right
is myself, Abraham, Katy, Paola, Ruth, and in the back is Paol, the
camera man is Dante. It was an enjoyable time with games, swimming,
diving, food and fútbol (soccer). I even got to talk with some of them a
little in English and Spanish.
Please pray for us all to live out James 1:22 being not just hearers
of the word of God but doers. Please pray we will all form God fearing
relationships in our lives. Thank you for your support in prayer which
encourages me in so many ways as God works through it (James 5:16b-18),
and for your financial support through God's direction which
enables the work of ministry. (Ephesians 4:11,12) Your little

Greetings from Tarapoto, Peru, praise to God

Greetings in Jesus Christ,
Monday I arrived in Lima, having left Salt Lake City the previous
day. All my luggage came through, my guitar that needed to be checked on
the last plane arrived safely as well. In the airport everything went
well even excellent. On the way through immigrations I met a team from
Arizona. It was nice to talk with the missions pastor. I received 183
days on my visa a praise to God roughly 6 months instead of the normal
3, the lady at the counter was kind. I got my luggage and went out to
where Heber, Techy's brother was waiting. It was around 12:40 am roughly
by that time.
The following day we went to CONEP (An evangelical organization)
where we were to start working on the paper work for my Carnet
Extranjeria. However one of the gentleman to help us out in the paper
work wasn't there. So we returned later that afternoon. David Buen Dia
was there and we started the paper work, they do most of it for a person
which is very very helpful. They help by knowing how much the fees are,
give you papers to fill out, etc. He then paid the fees that evening I
believe so then we could go to INTERPOL the next day. We went to
INTERPOL the government, had photos taken, finger printed, hand printed
sorta, throat checked or something. Praise to God that paper work is
started, there is a letter that needs to get to CONEP, hopefully next
week sometime. In about 30 days I need to return to get my Carnet
Extranjeria, praise to God that this is going well Lord willing. This
Card lets you stay indefinitely while updating it yearly.
Met some friends of Vikki who where visiting from Canada, they spent
a couple days in Lima. I got to see some of Heber's catering business
for things like birthdays, parties, weddings, etc. The following day I
joined Felu Heber's cousin who lives with him in getting some fancy
chicken for a wedding on Friday evening. Then we went and had lunch, I
joined Heber and the ladies from Canada, and we rode a double decker bus
where you sit outside, and we went around and toured some of the city of
Lima for around 3 hours. The next day, Yesterday morning I joined Heber
in a flower market where he bought flowers for wedding decorations that
evening. Wow lots and lots of roses and various other flowers. He
ordered some decorations made and we returned. I spent most of the rest
of the day in his house, where they were preparing food for the wedding.
I also got to see where the wedding was at, and saw some of the wedding
decorations being put in place and such.
Praise God for using what He has given us, Felu likes guitar and I
had brought mine so he enjoyed playing, also another young man that
lived a floor or two up enjoyed playing guitar as well, plus it was
different for them to have someone play english songs and try spanish
songs. It was also a wonderful time to get to know Heber better, and
others that lived there. Plus get to know KiKe Heber's friend who drove
us in his taxi around Lima. Please pray for Kike I don't believe he has
trusted in Jesus Christ for salvation. I gave him a tract on the way to
the airport, I hope he will learn more from it and also from Heber and
the other believers he comes into contact with. Please pray for his
salvation.
Well that is a long summary of a few days. I am in Tarapoto safely
now and look forward to seeing more people from church, and meeting some
new people.

Greetings Dear Brothers and Sisters in Jesus Christ our Savior,
Thank you so much for your continued prayers. This email finds me in
Atlanta waiting for my 5:15pm (East Coast time) flight to Lima, Peru.
Lord willing I should arrive in Lima this evening at 10:50pm (East Coast
time but without Daylight savings time makes it Central Time) Praise God
that luggage for international to South America is 2 bags and 50lb each
for Delta, also I have so far been able to bring my laptop bag, and
guitar on the plane with me. Praise God for the kind people who have
helped me, my family in working through the stress of figuring out what
item to lighten my bag and praise to God the item is one I can buy in
Tarapoto, Peru. Praise to God for my family's tender love. the age we
live in has many downsides but praise to God it also provides for this
quick communication of email from inside the airport. It is so much
easier to keep in touch than in times gone by. I should be in Lima, Peru
the next few days until Friday evening working on paper work for my
resident card and spending a few days with Heber, Techy's brother,
Delwin and Techy being the missionaries I get to work with in Tarapoto,
Peru. I should have internet when in Tarapoto Lord willing.
Please keep in touch, call me on skype, email, write, however you may
feel and please let me know how I can be in prayer for you and of any
other encouragement.

Thank you for praying - Update on what is going on in San Martin and surrounding area in Peru

Pastor Delwin updated me, Encouraging news.

Jonathan, the congress put on hold the two laws that affected the jungle area yesterday and it looks like they will try to understand the indians.  Today the strike is really just a demonstration and even more of a rememberance of the ones who died last Friday.  The motocars are working and everything seems quite normal.  PTL  I imagine that tomorrow will be completely normal.  Don´t get concerned about coming, it should be fine by the time you get here. A follow up email explaining in english what is happening in San Martin & Amazonas in Peru

The indigenous people of this region have been on strike around 50 days or more.
Below is an article talking about the strike in english. Presently in Tarapoto where Delwin and Techy Fowler are at
the street electricity is being turned off and maybe in the houses soon. They are unable to get
gas for the cooking stove. It is affecting other resources as well.
The pictures in the former email are about what occurred on last friday the 5th of police and the indigenous people.
Some 9 died of the indigenous and 9 police others wounded I believe. The reports vary. Please pray for
a soon resolution.

Peru Declares State of Emergency, Deploys Special Forces to Break Up Indigenous Protests


LIMA, Peru, May 14 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In Peru, indigenous protests against recent government decrees affecting their land and resource rights continue to spread throughout the country. Amazon Watch has received several alarming reports of violent crackdowns against peaceful demonstrators by Special Forces after President Alan Garcia declared a state of emergency in the Cusco, Ucayali, Loreto and Amazonas regions over the weekend. For the past month, indigenous peoples have blockaded roads and rivers throughout the Amazon to protest new decrees which make it easier to transfer indigenous peoples' land and resource rights to oil, mining, logging and agricultural companies to the detriment of local inhabitants. The decrees have also set the stage for the privatization of water resources. In the town of Bagua in the Amazonas region near the border with Ecuador, there have been reports that on Sunday armed forces cracked down on peaceful Awajun and Huambis demonstrators on the Corral Quemado Bridge resulting in several serious injuries. Two people are reported missing. Elsewhere, several thousand Shawi and Cocama Cocamillas have blockaded the road between Yurimaguas and Tarapoto, a major transport route. Yesterday in Lima, Peru's Prime Minister, Yehude Simon met with leaders of AIDESEP, Peru's leading indigenous rights organization. Last Friday 42 indigenous leaders staged a hunger strike in the Peruvian Congress to demand that the full legislature debate the repeal of the decrees and eight Peruvian Catholic bishops issued a statement saying the decrees were a "twisted concept of development" that "threaten to increase regional poverty" in the Amazon. The Peruvian government has auctioned off huge swaths of indigenous lands to mining and energy concessions. During the month-long protest, the Garcia administration has signed contracts for another 15 oil concessions - the majority of them in the Amazon. "The government has not defended us against the oil, mining and logging companies that continue to pollute our communities after they illegally entered our lands," said Alberto Pizango, the president of AIDESEP. "The government is not abiding by international treaties signed by Peru as well as our own Constitution." "We urge the Garcia administration to refrain from using force and instead enter into meaningful talks with indigenous peoples to resolve their legitimate concerns," said Atossa Soltani, Executive Director of Amazon Watch.

Returning to Peru -- Praise to God!

Greetings in Jesus Christ, YAWEH who gives precious direction in
His Timing, Praise to God, the plane tickets have been purchased
to leave on June 14th evening to arrive in Lima, Peru on June 15th
evening. Thank you so much for praying about returning to Peru on
June 1st this date to leave needed to be pushed back. Also there is
an opportunity to share at a Kamas Bible Church in Utah on June 7th,
please pray for this opportunity.
When I arrive in Peru, on the following day I will begin paper work
for a residency card, please pray for this to go smoothly and quickly.
Please be praying for God's provision in this step of faith to go to
Peru. I'm looking forward to returning to Tarapoto, Peru very soon
to be involved in ministry there. Thank you so much for praying.

What has been going on of late. April 28, 2009

Around February 25, 2009 I was accepted by Tentmaker Bible Mission as a missionary. Lord willing on June 1st of this 2009 I will be returning to Peru, South America to serve as a missionary. Since then the Lord has opened the door to share in many places; Southland Bible Church, River Valley Bible Church, Green River Bible Church, Rocky Mountain Bible Church, Morrill Bible Study, A couple families, Fellowship Baptist Church, Grace Bible Church, Provo Bible Church, Mountain View Bible Church. Please pray for the upcoming opportunities, Payson Bible Church, Morning Star Community Church, and a church in Crawford, Nebraska. Please pray for more opportunities and praise to God for open doors!

Lord willing I'll be serving alongside Delwin and Techy Fowler, and Vikki Waisman in Tarapoto, Peru. The initial year will be a main focus on learning Spanish, working with youth group, and helping setup a camp hopefully. Perhaps other things as well. To Live is Christ - Newsletter 3-3-09

Greetings in the name of our most Precious Savior Jesus Christ, 3/3/2009

Much has happened since the spring of 2008. I had the opportunity to go to Tarapoto, San Martin, Peru for 21 days with a short term team from Frontier School of the Bible. My desire was to get into more teaching, preaching and church planting. God was opening doors in His timing. While I was there, the door became open to return for 3 months while Delwin & Techy Fowler and their family were in the US to share about the ministry while on deputation. This was a big step for me, but I was thankful that I was not alone on the field. Another missionary came to prepare for working with Delwin & Techy's children.

During my time in Peru, I saw how God had prepared in advance a young man named Martin Ramos to be my translator. He is a kind, godly, and humble young man who is very talented in learning languages. Through his father, a Gideon, we got to distribute many New Testaments in schools. This trip turned into an amazing evangelism opportunity.

God also brought Ricardo & Asucena (Techy's parents) into my life. They were such an encouragement! They would come over quite often to prepare and eat supper with me. I also got to go to Asucena’s restaurant in the market where we spent time talking as best we could, and I enjoyed the wonderful food she prepared.

I enjoyed working with the youth group there. God stretched me in different ways and taught me many lessons. One lesson which I must always remember is that I need to get out and see the people more – there in Peru, as well as here in America.

During my 3 months in Peru, I was praying about returning to serve there full time – a decision not easy to make, because I am very close to my family, praise God. I also wanted my next ministry step to be someplace where I could settle in and minister for awhile. Adventure is fun, and I'm sure I'll have much of it in Peru, but spending a longer time in one place works better for long term effects. You have much more time to invest in people’s lives, and departures are not always looming.

When I returned to United States, I continued to pray about this decision. I really got hung up on wondering just what the call of God really meant. But by talking with various people, I started to understand that the direction of God isn't something mystical that cannot be grasped. God was already directing. He was telling me to go back to Peru. How? The people in Peru were asking me to come back. Delwin & Techy were asking me to come back. The opportunities are there to work with youth, to preach and teach, to plant churches, to do camp ministry, and even perhaps to one day help start a Bible school. I even enjoy the food and love the scenery. The weather is a bit hot sometimes but, well, some things I will adjust to (hopefully)!

So I have started taking the steps to return to Peru full time, Lord willing in June of this summer. I stepped down from One Way Evangelistic Ministries (OWEM), the mission organization that helped get me started. OWEM is an excellent mission, especially in the areas of evangelism, discipleship, and coming alongside church planters. This is a wonderful focus, because the field truly is ripe to share the Gospel! Because my heart is focused more on the role of church planting, I have become an official missionary with Tentmakers Bible Mission, Inc. (TBM).

TBM is another wonderful mission organization that is dear to my heart. I have known many of the men on the TBM board through my years in Utah because many have ministered there. I also got to know other TBM members through my time at Frontier School of the Bible. Their focus is church planting, which ties into other aspects of mission work such as evangelism, discipleship, camping, and a Bible school. All these various opportunities will help to stretch me and keep me busy. An added blessing is that Delwin & Techy Fowler are also TBM missionaries.

Ministry:

My first year of ministry involvement (Lord willing):

Learning Spanish. (Porque español es muy importante para ministerio en Peru.)
Leading a youth group
Helping setup a camp
Preaching and teaching
Doing whatever else God may bring
Please pray for me to learn the Spanish language. To be most effective, I must have a full grasp of this.

Future ministry involvement (Lord willing):

More involvement in the training of nationals
Continued work at camp – children, youth, retreats, training, missions retreats
Helping to start a Bible school – training of nationals
Being involved in church planting – there is a need for 3-4 more churches in the Tarapoto area alone, and that’s not even counting the rest of the San Martin Region.
Possibly learning Quechua, the other official language of Peru.
Doing whatever else God may bring.
Please pray for me to remain flexible because things often do change a lot on the mission field.

To the Field:

Peru: Lord willing, I would like to step onto the mission field in Peru sometime this summer (2009), Lord willing when the mission team from Frontier School of the Bible goes down during the month of June.
Here in the US: I would love to share with anyone and everyone – even one on one – about the opportunity God has given me to serve Him in Peru. And I also want to minister here however and whenever God directs. Please pray that I'll be faithful day by day.

Praise:

God's ability to get things done very fast and in His perfect timing.
God's faithfulness
God's continued direction

Prayer:

Please pray for opportunities for me to share this ministry with individuals, in churches, and wherever else God may provide.
Please pray that I would be a usable tool in God's service. That I will serve in His strength.
Please pray that more people will come serve as missionaries in Peru, and as missionaries across the world by becoming involved however God would lead them. Matthew 9:37-38 says, “Then He said unto His disciples, ‘The harvest truly is plenteous, but the laborers are few; pray therefore the Lord of the harvest, that He will send forth laborers into His harvest.’”

God's Wondrous Love

Greetings in our most Precious Jesus Christ, who shows His Love in
wonderful ways,
In my last email I shared I was at Frontier School of the Bible and
I praise God for that. Let me follow up with God's Wonderful love. When
you are around many Christians, and begin to make friends, and renew old
friendships, throw in other reasons as well and it is very painful to
depart. God showed His love through His people. Monday as myself and
Daniel were getting ready to leave many came and said goodbye, talked,
and I got to pray with a few, treasured moments. God was saying, "see I
have my children who care." God's children really do care about you,
please remember this with me, God's wondrous love. My brother Daniel and
I had a safe drive back home quite fast in fact, and full of
conversation between us from time to time, God was growing us closer
together. Please remember with me how God grows people closer to you,
God's wondrous love.
As I slept off and on during that ride back I struggled within
myself, but God is always nearby. We stopped and talked with a Pastor,
and He encouraged me to write emails especially during times of trouble,
people want to pray. God showed His wondrous love again. We came back to
our mom's birthday at church, then went home. That night was truly hard,
especially the next morning as the storm within me hit hard. However God
is always near, He reminded of a passage I had heard recently about
Jacob struggling with God. (Genesis 32:24-29) He also reminded me of
Elijah running in fear from Jezebel after such a great victory on mount
Carmel over the prophets of Baal. (1 Kings 18:19-19:3) God is always
near in His wondrous Love. (Hebrews 13:5) Monday &Tuesday God reminded
us about "being here on earth," as a friend shared with me. We want to
be in heaven, here on earth is so so much sin, whether talking with your
mom at work and someone in the background is going to bad websites
hurting himself, sin abounds.
God showed His wondrous love again that Tuesday night please read
Luke 18:1 ". . . men always ought to pray and not lose heart." what
comforting words to go to sleep on. The next morning bringing new
struggles, but God is always near reminding what Paul says that ". . .
to live is Christ, and to die is gain." So often in our own lives we let
something take our main focus and it tears us up inside. Please remember
with me that "to live is Christ" Philippians 1:21-26 there are days and
will be days when you want to be in heaven to escape the pain here on
earth but we remain as Paul did because "to live is Christ" there is
much, much to do here. Jesus Christ speaking through Paul in Philippians
1:25 tells it all "And being confident of this, I know that I shall
remain and continue with you all for your progress and joy of faith." I
get to be here in Utah because there is much to do, and only because God
has given the opportunity to serve Him. Please remember with me that we
are here to for all for their progress and joy of faith. God has a
purpose for me and you in His wondrous Love. I was also reminded of a
verse Adam Danielson shared with us on Sunday evening in Chapel Hebrews
12:2 "looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for
the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame,
. . . " Jesus didn't focus on the cross but looked to the joy. Please
remember with me not to focus on the pain but on Jesus Christ, focus on
why He has us here, as it tell us in Philippians 1:21. Finally this
morning in God's wondrous love He brought my mom to say have faith, God
will bring about the desires of your heart, she said something like
this. Praise God for His wondrous love, please join me in remembering
dear believer in Jesus Christ that you are never alone. God's Wondrous Love.

Frontier School of the Bible -- Utah

Greetings in Christ,
I am presently back in Utah, God continues to direct it seems at time a good dose of patience is necessary. While at Frontier School of the Bible for two weeks, I had my interview with Tentmakers Bible Mission, Inc. more news hopefully soon on this.
I enjoyed time sharing in a few classes, sharing with a family in Colorado, getting to share at Mitchell E Free Church, and sitting in much of Missions Conference which was an encouragement for me. Also I had the opportunity to attend a Missions Retreat by Send International. I praise God for the many people He sent my way that encouraged me in so many ways from kind words to kind actions thank you so much.
I hope to have some more news very soon, and I thank you all so much for your prayers for safety in travels. We had a very good drive back home today and it went quicker than normal it seemed.

In God's Timing: A Time of Change

Greetings in Jesus Christ,
Time has sped swiftly by and my emails have been less lately. The reason is, I was in a time of praying, seeking advice, and praying for the next step. I believe the Lord is directing me to return to Tarapoto, San Martín, Peru as a full time missionary. I am also applying to Tentmakers Bible Mission to be a missionary with them. Also at the same time I have resigned from One-Way Evangelical Missions (OWEM). I truly appreciate how God used OWEM in my life. Jerry & Kathy Singh, John Cook, and Kenny Detamore
they really helped me step into the life of a missionary teaching me in many ways and praying for me in many ways. They were with me through thick and thin helping me understand and I learned a great deal about evangelism and the gospel from them. Please continue to pray for their future ministry, God is growing the ministry in many wonderful ways.
If anyone has any questions about this time of change please let me know, or any other questions. Or if anyone would like me to come and share about ministry in Peru, and how I may be involved in God's work there, please let me know. Greetings thank you for all who prayed.
Thank you all for praying, God brought me safely and smoothly back home through the 3 flights. I had three different people to talk to while in the airport in Lima during my long layover. In Houston only barely enough time to go from one flight to the next. In Las Vegas it wasn't long before I met up with my Dad, Mom, and sister. Praise God. Enjoyed going to a Christian book store with knick-knacks. Then spent a little time trying to get on the free way and then heading back home. I slept off and on through the ride back. Only two days away to the day when we celebrate Jesus humbling becoming man so that he could die for our sins as 100% God and 100% Man. Praise God. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas celebrating what God has done for us.

Giants you're battling

Greetings in Christ,
I was reminded yesterday through the song "Voice of Truth" about David & Goliath and how the song compared Goliath to the problems we are battling in our own lives. Perhaps we are struggling with a sin and it keeps tearing away at us. As Goliath mocked David perhaps this foot hold of sin has been eating away at serving God. If you are struggling in this way please turn to God knowing you need Him. David did not fight against Goliath on his own. He went against Goliath in the strength of the LORD. When David approached Saul to go before Goliath "And David said, 'The LORD who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.'" 1 Samuel 17:37. Remember this amidst what ever is striking you down. The LORD can deliver turn to Him.
I've been encouraged by an older couple in our church. Brother Ricardo and his wife Asucena they have built me up many time while being here, Brother Ricardo loves to joke and encourage. I often get to eat lunch with them, and he serves often in Wednesday evenings by leading out the service. His wife Asucena is a great encouragement in her preparation of meals for me from time to time and their great care for myself and others.
There are also the brothers Carlitos and Dante that have been an encouragement. Carlitos in his faithfulness in coming early on Sunday mornings to setup, and in his joyful spirit, he is also helping out on Saturday evenings with the youth in leading games. Dante in often helping with music, on Sunday mornings and on Saturdays in music and helping in games.
A sister that has been an encouragement is seeing sister Vikki take the step of faith to serve God here in teaching Delwin & Techy Fowler's children. While they are in the states she has been a great encouragement and a sounding board in another country where those that can speak english are few and far between.
I'm also encouraged by Martin who Sunday after Sunday, Wednesday after Wednesday, and Saturday after Saturday has been faithfully translating this is no small task. He has been very faithful in translating. Looking over material before and translating the day of the sermon, study, or devotion for myself and others at times.
There are others that are an encouragement whether it is young Ugito who is quick to answer questions on Wednesday evening Bible study. Or young Chandra a little girl up the street who likes to say hi.
There are more people that I could share about perhaps another time you may hear more about the people. Please pray for Community Bible Church.
As you look a those goliaths around you please remember the precious people that God has put in your life.
December is fast approaching with the return of Delwin & Techy and the return of myself to the states. In a sense the time for a decision is coming up very fast, I'm often reminded of this decision as people even here are asking what will you do Jonathan. I want God's will to be done, I know I'm not worthy to serve in His ministry day by day but if He would use me I hope for the strength to serve Him.

Praise God for His Opportunities

On Tuesday October 28th, 2008; myself, fellow missionary Vikki, and Martin had the opportunity to go with Martin's dad, Caleb and two other men from the Gideons. We went to the pueblo (village) of Sauce and another village near there. There is a big lake near the town known as Blue Lagoon in English or Sauce Lake. The day started off from Caleb's house at around 5:30am in the morning. We went from there to pick up the Gideon New Testaments and the other two Gideon men then back to Caleb's house/store for Martin. Along the way we crossed a fast flowing river on a ferry that made its way back and forth using the current of the river while
attached to a cable.

The next exciting part of the adventure was going up a mountain that proved fairly steep at times. I'm glad we where able to use Delwin's pickup thank you if you helped in providing for this pickup. It has a good diesel engine and if needed high and low 4x4. As we went up the mountain we even passed some clouds. On the other side as we came down we saw bits and pieces of the big lake. We arrived near the first school in the village around 7:45 - 8am.
At the first school we weren't able to hand out Bibles because it was an anniversary. The students where going to a catholic religious meeting. The next school/encampment was military and there the G$ideons left some Bibles for the men. We couldn't go there because they where expecting the inspection of generals. In fact when we arrived it was interesting. Because they came out with a trumpet but didn't play it. The reason they came out with a trumpet is they thought perhaps the general for the inspection have arrived. We headed off to the next school. It went much better there Caleb shared in the first class, and different ones handed out Bibles. (On the way there they said if I wanted I could also share.) Perhaps in the next class is when I had my first opportunity to share from the Bible. The day went fast and I can't remember I think I had the opportunity to share 1 to 2 times in this school. I thank God for the opportunity to share the gospel. God lead me to use the passage in Matthew 14:26-31 about Jesus walking on water which I had learned about from "By This Lamb" a book by Goodseed.com. This passage shows who Jesus is that he is God because of his power over creation. It shows who Peter trusted in Jesus. It also shows that there wasn't anyone else there to save Peter except Jesus.
Which is the same for us, Jesus is the only way to the Father. John 14:6. It was raining heavily, off we went to the next school in the next village close by. Here I had the opportunity to
share 3 times if I remember right. Martin translated every time for me, he is wonderful with language. We were planning to leave and the 1st graders came and said their teacher wanted us to come by. Caleb shared with them, also note he also shared in each class that we personally handed out Bibles in. We tried to get back to the first school two times but it didn't work out. However the Gideons left Bibles there with two Christians to hand out according to the roll sheets. We had lunch by the lake at a local restaurant, went to the police station where the Gideons gave out more Bibles. Saw a local evangelical church and met the local pastor.
Here is a picture of myself and Martin who translates often for me. Please pray for his strength and clarity in translating.
He translates Sunday, Wednesday, Saturday and other times as well such as during this day. Please pray he will look to God in his learning of language. He seems to be a very godly young man. He is a Spanish speaker, good in English, understands Hebrew and is learning German, he enjoys languages.I believe he would like to go to Israel some day.

I Come to you today in Two Ways

1st Way Will you be an intercessor in Prayer?
Please pray for Nilo, for His wife who needs to have a surgery in Lima or she may die. This is a big financial need for him. Please pray for God's glorification in this. That even
right now Nilo would be comforted by God and lifted up in prayer by you all. He is a new Christian but a faithful new Christian. His desire to share the gospel outstrips many older
Christians in the faith. Even today we went to another pueblo where he shared the gospel with two families. Last week he shared with two ladies. He will probably sell his little vendor stand
of Empanda de Yuka's to get more money to go. Another missionary here has helped out. I know many of you would love to help I'm not sure how this is directly possible but I know
that you can pray for God's provision through His way. Please pray for clarity in God's direction. Perhaps the church here may take a love offering for them on Wednesday night.

2nd Way Will you give God praise?
For Nilo and him stepping out to share the gospel. For others in the church being so faithful, and even some stepping forward to perhaps partake in greater responsibilities there may be young adult group
form. Please pray for God's direction and please give praise for the people's willingness. Praise God for the church how some are inviting different people. Praise God for the youth group that is coming out.
Praise God for the opportunities he provides. Will you give praise to the Creator who made the universe nothing is impossible with Him. Praise God that perhaps even today through Nilo's witness that
possibly 3 men Eleser, Raul, Andre, and Eleser wife Elfa perhaps came to Christ. (The names may be misspelled.) Lord willing I'll return with some New Testaments for them. Please perhaps even pray that
Nilo could go and see them again later on.
Please give the glory to God for this is only possible in Him. "Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; And His greatness is unsearchable." (Psalms 145:3 NKJV)

Greetings Here is part of an email sent to my Dad. I thought perhaps others would find it interesting as well.
I hope you have a wonderful day in the LORD.
It was a good day kinda long and different. The sermon was on "Is there Hope in Life" I think was the title. 1. Life is hopeless separated from God. 2. Life is hopeful with God.
Something like that. Talking about Cain's lineage and it doesn't mentioned them calling upon the name of the LORD. Some of Lamech's sons would have so called prestige in the eyes of
the world being the fathers of various things. Then we looked at Adam and Eve, seeing even remembered to give praise to God then after Seth had Enosh it said people called on the name of the LORD.
Which then later tied into Acts 4:12, John 10:31-33 I think, Acts 16:31
The two men I saw in Morales came though the older one wound up sleeping most of the time I think. The other responded during the sermon. I don't know if either are believers. Possibly though. Then we took some people to a restaurant before going to Papito Ricardo's for lunch. Then I went shopping got two shirts I needed to get change, perhaps other ways would have been better but I needed shirts wound up being around 34 soles which is around $12 US. A lot of money for peruvians but not for americans hmms. Then went and picked a couple of those people up from the restaurant, well after coming by the house and changing. Took them back and then took one of Alfredo & Anitta's son to play soccer with me. Went and did that which was fun. One of them invited me to church in the evening Pepe he is somewhat mischievous. However went and he didn't show up until close to the end of the service. But I went asking God to learn about more of the need here. I met the director of the Evangelical Mission for the San Martin, and Loretto area. So got to ask him some questions and he is possibly coming by tonight. Which he speaks spanish and I don't speak it very well so we'll see what happens. Please pray for direction.
After the service met some people, I enjoyed singing there they had some songs I knew but they where in spanish but the tunes where familiar. The sermon was on Acts 10 with Cornelius but I don't know what he talked about other than when he went to different verses. I'm not sure they preach through the Bible verse by verse and book by book or if it is more in this chapter one Sunday and in a different on the next. It is hard to get to know the pastors as far as the language barrier. Pastor Werrin wanted his daughter or someone he knew to practice english with me, I wound up talking with Pepe she wanted to talk with the young guys. So a different evening.
Then I went with Pepe to Ice Cream got to know him a bit better, including that his sister has cancer in the blood Leukemia I think is what he said. That his dad doesn't live there with them. He plays in a bad and will be turning 21 Oct 18. Seems he is directionless right now, not sure if he is a believer but possibly. Perhaps he is trying to forget about things. I feel sad about his sister. But he also said she believes in God, and I think he said she has a lot of trust in God.
After that we went to his house for a bit where he showed me his electric guitar he had made. Shows again the poorness. I was glad he showed me though he enjoys playing. Then his sister and mom came out and talked for awhile. His mom gave me some platino (like bananas) for frying, (and other forms of cooking) and I didn't know how. So she took a little time cut one up and showed me how to fry them.
So I'll probably try that today.
I think it was around 12 by the time I got to bed.
A good day praise God. Please continue to pray for direction in understanding the need here. If God wants me to return and in what form. It seems in shepherding it has really helped me to grow, because it helps me to have a caring heart about other people which I really love that God is creating that more and more in me. Evangelism is good but seems perhaps God is directing more toward shepherding in the sense of longer term relationships.

Will you walk?

Lately it has been fun to walk here and there in Peru. I need to do it more often.
This evening I walked over to Morales to give Dante the lesson for youth group on Saturday. Please pray for him that he'll be able to help in translating. (Another story)
On the way there I got to look out over the valley the jungle covered mountains. Into God's glorious sunset.
I passed by a welding & mechanic shop I believe it is the gentleman who owns it said hi and I stopped for a bit to talk with him and his friend. They took a couple tracts and even gave me their names and phone numbers. Later I found out they are evangelical I think.
I continued on my way dropped off the lesson at Dante's house spent a bit of time there. I came back the same way and the shop owner was still there. He invited me for a drink (it is possible he and his friend may have been drunk for the 2nd conversation), he bought me a kola naranja. We chatted for awhile, him and his friend. They both are older men. He wound up buying me supper from across the street, it was very good fries, chicken, with some greens covered in mayonnaise and ketchup.
Praise God for his wonderful opportunities.
You never know what may happen, please be open to how God may use you today, perhaps even try walking some place and talking with some people.

God's Creation is Beautiful

Greetings in Christ,
Today I went driving around trying to find the Plantain Farm that
Delwin and Techy have. I wasn't able to find it but that is not
why I wrote. I've been wanting to see people the way God does, there is
still so much to understand in this but He taught
me a small bit today.
I was looking at His wonderful creation a mountain/hill here with
jungle on it off in the distance as I stopped
and took a photograph.

It was beautiful. But did you know that each
person God has made is more beautiful to Him.
They are so precious in His sight. Precious enough to die for. Why do I,
why do we look at people judging them as we pass on by?
Look with God's eyes. Please pray that I would see people the way God
sees them. Please pray the same for yourself.

Health and Opportunites

Yesterday was youth group which went well, we had a lesson and a movie, with carmel pop-corn, made by my fellow missionary. However during the day I walked around in the sun looking for an mp3 player to record the sermons on to listen to hopefully help me learn Spanish better. I've got to be more careful with the sun, it is easy to get dehydrated.
So during youth group I started to not feel so good. So I had to leave a bit early. The nights sleep was not the best. This mornings sermon was not very expressive. I felt bad about that. I didn't eat too much lunch then slept a lot this afternoon. Which helped to get me ready for the opportunity to share at another church this evening. Praise God I felt a lot better I had the opportunity to share from Acts 4:1-12. It was more expressive I think. Thank you so much for praying. It helps me keep healthy and going, and encouraged. Please remember Martin my translator in prayer. It is complicated to translate and not so easy. Pray for his voice which gets sore after speaking for a long time. I had a blast also meetings Martin's soon to be little step sister. She was full of energy and so cute.
God is good in all things. We need to praise Him in the Good times, and we need to praise Him in what we see as bad times.
Remember these both can be a glory to God.

and more I think he said he felt expressive. That is really neat. After Bible study which was
on Prayer. We made frozen coffee smoothies, with frozen coffee, leche, and azucar. Chocolate powder
and vanilla. We were going to try volley ball earlier on but I think it was given up for cards, and watching soccer
on TV. The guys stayed awhile longer than the gals, watching Peru versus Venezuela. Peru won I think! Then we
had a little food afterwards, thanks for the sloppy joe meat Techi.
Renato, and Carlitos came early and helped setup. Carlitos is fun gave him a couple cups of coffee later on he came
out with a hat and trying to sell tickets. He is fun.
This morning Huegle led off with prayer and music. Dante helped with playing the guitar and Carlitos also helped in singing.
We spoke on Genesis 1 - 2:3 about God shown through creation. Martin said he really likes to translate. That is wonderful
to hear.
Papi Ricardo and Mami stayed here for lunch Mami made lunch (Sorry Techi I can't remember your mom's name
can you please remind me of it again.) It was good it helped me with spanish, like I think I'm to go to where Mami works
tomorrow for lunch and I think Papi is going to take me on his motorcycle. It was a good lunch
with chicken, rice, and yuka, plus some cucumber, tomato, and onion salad. With some Uva (Grape) juice to drink which was
really good. They mentioned about Delwin setting at the head of the table and where Techi, Marcos, Lucas, and Sarah sit. They
miss you, Delwin, Techi and family.
Papi Ricardo helped with counting the offering like was setup. I feel bad, that I can't talk easier or more with them I want
to learn spanish quickly. I guess the most important is practice, practice, practice.
This afternoon, at 3 to go with Alfredo, family, Dante, and Carlitos to Cumbaza river for swimming. Possibly being with Alfredo
and family this evening.
Tomorrow will probably be studying for Wednesday's Bible Study, to get it to Martin hopefully tomorrow so he can prepare amidst his busy
schooling, and work schedule.
Hoping to get ahead for next weekend as well, it will be busier with Saturday, Sunday morning and evening. All is good though.
I'll need to get a jump on it early some would like to visit Moyobamba on Thursday and I would like to visit the capital city
of San Martin as well.
Thank you for your continued prayers, as God continues to move, for it is beyond me in so many ways. It is of God. A challenge
somehow if you would step out in faith to see God work wondrously.

Greetings in the Lord's Faithfulness

-Last Saturday was the first youth group I was involved in teaching. Praise God for the
faithful youth that came. Jean Pierre, Renato, Melony, and even someone they knew who was staying with them Aldo came. Praise God!
-Wednesday Papi Ricardo opened up service. He lead a few songs, read Joshua 1:9. Then myself and Martin shared from Genesis 12:1-9
What an encouragement it is to see the church coming together and helping in the time of need.
-Today we have Reunion de Adolescentes (Youth Group) I hope it will also go well.
-Praise God for Martin who has been translating for me. He is very faithful. He is even working at his dad's shop and also attending University. Pray for His courage and strength.
-Yesterday Dante invited me over to his house for lunch. Thanks to Doris his mom for the wonderful meal.
-This past Thursday Jean Pierre helped with putting some diesel in the pickup, even simple things are much
harder as you're learning to communicate.
I thank God for those who are stepping up and helping us out.

Greetings from Tarapoto, San Martin, Peru,
I safely arrived in Lima, Peru on the 18th of August in the evening. I waited a little while for Techy Fowler, Delwin's wife to meet up with myself
and another missionary from Canada. We spent a few days in Lima, getting some paperwork done for Vikki the other missionary and also doing some shopping.
I didn't need to get a visa extension because the Lord provided at Immigration, the man gave me 183 days the normal is 90 days. Praise God! Thank you so much
for praying about that.
While here the opportunities right off look to be preaching on Sunday mornings in Genesis 1-11 and Bible study on Wednesday evenings in Genesis 12-50. Also
the opportunity to be involved in teaching discipleship/evangelism with/to the youth on Saturdays. Who knows what other opportunities God will open up. One is
being involved more with Martin, my translator, who will be teaching me Spanish also. He is a very smart young man who knows Spanish, much English and even some
Hebrew. At the time of writing this email we have already met twice for lessons, pray for his time table. Because He is busy with working at his dad's copy shop,
going to the University and helping me.
On another note, a couple people have asked about if I needed support while I'm here. A bit of information on that, I'm a Missionary here with
One Way Evangelistic Ministries based out of Cheyenne, Wyoming. As far as prayer support please definitely keep praying for me, this is what helps keep a
missionary going on the field. It is a powerful tool, someday perhaps we will understand how very powerful of a tool it truly is.
On the financial side there is a need also but this is something I want in God's hands if you would talk to God about this and you are directed to help.

This is very great praise to God.
Please pray for my quick, understanding, and learning of Spanish. I would love to talk, and minister more and more with the people here. Please pray that deputation

here, as she prepares more for teaching of Delwin & Techy's children when they come back from the states. Pray for her housing. She will also help out in other ways
such as with youth and no doubt more.
Please also pray for decisions about Peru, perhaps the Lord will have me to minister here full time. Lord willing I'll be here until December 20th when I'll be returning
to the states, pray for future direction.

Praise God for plane tickets

Greetings,
I was concerned about plane tickets as the date to go to Peru got closer and closer. Plane tickets have been purchased praise God! Lord willing on the 18th of August in the morning I will fly out of Las Vegas, from there to Houston, and then to Lima where Techy Fowler will meet up with myself and another missionary coming in. We will spend a day or so in Lima getting Visa Extensions Lord willing to extend our visas from 90 days up to 5 months. On the 21st of August we will fly from Lima to Tarapoto where we will settle in for a few days before Delwin, Techy & family come to the states for deputation.
If you would like to meet them they will be sharing at the missions conference this fall at Frontier School of the Bible also they will be sharing at the Bible Church in Lindon, Utah on the 28th of September.
While in Peru Lord willing I'll be preaching most Sundays, teaching most Wednesdays, and helping out with youth group on Saturdays. It will be busy but good, I will also be learning Spanish while I'm there. Pray that I learn fast, and that it gets ingrained into me also that I will fit into the culture.
Lord willing I will be returning around the 20th of December from Lima and flying into Las Vegas as well.
Throughout the time in Peru I will be praying about coming back there full time as a missionary there is much need there especially in training, and planting good Bible based churches.

Greetings the last few weeks have been spent involved at Cedar Mountain Retreat Camp.
1st & 2nd week of camp involvement was Junior and Middle School camp. I was able to be involved
in helping out with games and activities and some helping out with cutting trees, etc. I enjoyed getting to narrate in the reenacting of Jonah, and Ruth.
I enjoyed the time spent with the youth that were counseling, the people helping out in various ways. God is very good so often I forget the blessings He gives. He is reminding me of this over and over. The blessings of getting to talk with a young man up there to encourage him, but he really encouraged me. Please remember what God has done, be faithful in serving Him and get into His Word.

In God's Timing 7-6-08

Greetings in Christ much has happened in God's Timing. In writing this why should the title “In God's Timing” be so important. Please join with me in God's Timing.

In God's Timing it wasn't too long ago that I arrived at Frontier School of the Bible (FSB) where I learned more about God's Word. During the first summer of Bible School the opportunity to go to Trinidad, South America came about praise God that He opens doors, Isaiah 6:8 “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I. Send me!" Will you heed God's Timing perhaps He is asking you to be ready to go.

The next summer found me searching again, the door closed to go to Bolivia but opened wonderfully in His Timing to go to Crescent Lake Bible Camp in Wisconsin with the privilege of learning more about shepherding.

Often throughout the time at FSB God's Timing was visible in His wonderful provision through those years, so much was provided directly through His people, you.

The winter of 07 saw God opened a door in His Timing to intern under John Cook in Guyana, South America. But before that God brought me to Guyana for around three weeks during the summer of 07 to learn more about the field. I came back really not wanting to return but God kept me committed to follow through. He strengthens. In His Timing He provided the means through so many of you to be a missionary and an FSB intern at the same time Praise God so much that He brought me back to Guyana. I would love to share the wonderful blessings God gave me there, sometimes ask me about them. One was learning more and more about evangelism. Learning about evangelism through chronological teaching, and just more one on one opportunities. The month of April of 08 saw the time closing out in Guyana. While praying about the future, even the believers in the church we helped out in Guyana joined in prayer for God's direction, praise God for them. Praise God for John Cook, for Pastor John Persaud and the many believers there. I praise God for One-Way Evangelistic Ministries (OWEM) and especially Jerry & Kathy Singh as they worked with me in many ways helping me learn and even work, and grow through the good and the hard times.

During the time there my desire leaned toward church planting. An opportunity opened to join a Missions team where I would get to see more of church planting in Tarapoto, San Martin, Peru. Once again in God's Timing He had provided in abundance to be able to go on the trip during the month of June for around 20 days to Tarapoto. Praise God for the many opportunities there. I had the privilege of sharing with men in prison through Delwin Fowler who translated. Delwin is the missionary there along with his wife Techy a couple of God who serves faithfully, oh so faithfully. The following week found some of us involved in a Pastor Conference in Bellavista where perhaps we went as teachers but learned a great deal about being humble. We learned about the widows mite as the Pastors there shared with us out of their poverty, to not accept this gift would be wrong, and in the end God taught us greatly. Please pray for Pastor Agusto, a humble hospitable man, His wife will need surgery soon. Before the widows mite was shared with us we had the opportunity to take up a small amount for the surgery of Agusto's wife but please pray that all the need for the surgery will be met. Please pray for the pastors in Bellavista. The following week found us in another Pastor's conference in Morales. Pray for the men at both Pastor's conferences for their financial needs but most of all that they can be the men they should be in God's sight. At Morales Pastor's Conference I got to meet Lennin a youth leader who shared his testimony with a couple of us. He also shared that he had to work hard to be able to be there praise God. Praise God for men who will do much to be able to serve God. Many other things happened during out stay in Peru: Work Projects, football (soccer), hiking, trying different foods, enjoying good coffee, sharing devotions, and sharing in wonderful fellowship.

The team that went was Mr. Fellows, Mr. Meysenburg teachers at FSB. Terry Cline a cook at Frontier. Josh Fellows Mr. Fellows son a previous student at FSB. Even a pastor's wife went Michelle. Raquel another student from FSB but also a native of Tarapoto, Peru went as well.

In God's Timing, God has so far opened the door for me to be able to help in Tarapoto for at least three months, roughly through September 08 and early December 08. Delwin, Techy and their family will be on deputation during that time and need someone to help in filling the need of sharing from God's Word and being with the wonderful people there. This will be new for me in many ways, one way being that I'm learning Spanish and another way is speaking a lot through a translator. Please pray for this that God will be glorified in all things and that through it all, that I can be the man of God He wants me to be. Please pray for future direction, perhaps that this would be where God would have me stay on in continued full time ministry there for long term.

In God's Timing, I'm trying to make another important decision in ministry. Lord willing I'll share more on this later if the need arises and as God directs, please be in prayer.

The following week I also hope to be at CMR as well. The two weeks are as follows Junior and Middle School camps. Please pray for the counselors in their growing walk with God, also pray that the children would grow closer to God. Please pray for God to bring many into the personal relationship of understanding who Jesus is, and what Jesus Christ has done for them.

Please pray that I will be the man that waits for God's Timing, that I will be a man of faith who will faithfully look to Jesus Christ the author and finisher of our faith.

Last night I finished teaching the evangelism class for here in Morales. Please pray for these men they have many questions. Even such as grace or works. What repentance means etc. I´m glad they are asking and are staying awake even into the evening finishing at around 9:20 pm. I think especially of Lennin who is quick to read the verses and seems so eager to learn, praise God. He is a leader of a youth group.
The teaching was using Richard Seymour´s notes, and book from Goodseed.com by John Cross called "By This Name."
Today the classes finish up in Morales. On Saturday I think we´re going to the Prison again. Lord willing I´ll preach Sunday evening not sure if that will still happen but I would appreciate your prayers in that direction.
Please continue to pray for confirmation on direction about Peru. Also please pray that I would be listening to the Lord´s direction. It seems the Spanish language I can pick up some so that is a praise. The need and want here is also shown.

Teaching in Bejavista

Not sure on the spelling of that cities name. However it was a good time a humbling time. We got to enjoy some of their hospitallity even picking up Agusto and his youth Pastor and others on the Way. Terry Cline taught a panorama overview of the Bible. Mr. Meysenburg Bible study methods. Then I using pretty directly Mr. Seymour´s note and a few other things taught Personal Evangelism. We had to be fast there wasn´t a lot of time for teaching.
Friday evening I got to play some football (soccer) with some of the Pastors. They fed us quite a bit of food. Ranging from salted fish, with yuka. To fried egg, plantain mashed, and fried as chips. Perhaps on another time we´ll be tough enough to stay alongside them there through the night.
We had a bumpy ride to and from which was somewhat exciting.
Please pray for the Pastors there and for the church in that area. That they would grow in the Lord in His Word. Please pray that even some study tools would come there. They don´t even have that many concordances, even fewer Bible dictionaries, etc. They have giving hearts, loving hearts, and hospitality abundantly.
This week we have another session of Teaching, Terry, Mr. Meysenburg, and Myself teach the same and then Mr. Fellows will also be doing a missions class.

Good Morning - Banana farm, Hiking

Yesterday we went and saw the banana farm that the church owns. It also has Mangos, another fruit, papya, limes, tangerines, and perhaps others. They are thinking possibly about making a Christian camp there. It might be better to do it in the mountains though due to the mosquitos, and getting in and out may get quite muddy.
Today we´ll be hiking to a water fall that should be interesting.
Please continue to pray for direction not an easy decision by no means. The need is great and the help is wanted here. Especially while Delwin and Techy go on furlow during September through early December they would like to have someone here, and Lord willing there will even be someone else who could translate if I was to stay.
However I don´t want to make just a decision for three months for I had decided before that I would like the next place to be where I would stay for a long time but it must be according to God´s will. 3 months doesn´t really give you enough time to really develope relationships and to be really involved in something. I will also need to decide if I was to join Tent Makers and step out from One Way who have been very good for me. I know both are good organizations. Not easy decisions.

Hi Jonathan,
Good news today. Nick, Damien and Brian attended Church. All the others
in Nicks family, except Grandma and Preya, went to the backdam. Brian
and Damien attended Sunday School as well.
Cindy taught lesson 9 along with Loretta Bepta (one of my BTN students).
Loretta is joining our Sunday School teaching group, she has taught
Sunday School before. I will be giving her Vol 1 of the Firm Foundations Teacher's manual to read.
John Persaud sat quietly and observed the session without interfering.
Later he and Zed came by and agreed to purchase a copy of Firm
Foundations for the Church. He is also going to recommend that all the
ABC Churches purchase copies. So my soul is praising the LORD for
answered prayer.
Also, I began teaching Nick how to read using the Phonics material I
received. I plan to teach any others who wish to do the same.
Your efforts appear to be bearing fruit.
Lacram and Kamla are showing more interest in the things I am teaching,
and Ram said that perhaps we could do a Bible study once the rainy
season begins, as he will have more free time then.
Over half of the rear patio is paved now so I definitely need to get a
hammock for back there.

Here is an email from John Cook:
Hi Jonathan,
Nick and Preya came by today as I was singing Victory In Jesus. When I finished, I did a stirring reading of Revelation Ch 21:9- 22:21. When I finished they said they wanted to come to church Sunday, and also Sunday School. I told them that I would drop by Sunday Morning to get them. Just as they left, Damien, Brian and Adija came by. I sang a few more Hymns to them. They liked Wonderful Grace Of Jesus in particular. Then we all sang Arky Arky. I then read the same two chapters in Revelation to them. Finally, they asked me to "Follow us home". It is a very dark night. Yadoram dropped by earlier with some food. Said he wanted to do a lesson. Not knowing what exactly to do with him, I asked him to let me know when his Dad got home from work. My plan is to discuss what kind of study to do with him, or rather, with the whole family, I hope. It looks as if he got home quite late as all the downstairs lights are out. So maybe I will see Ram another time. Yadram did mention that he would like to come to church and Sunday School sometimes because sometimes he is in Mara.
It appears as if the doors you opened are allowing me entry.

I had the opportunity to share with Grandma Ramdeen, who is Grandma of Preya, Nick, ShaBana, and Ravi. I got to share some of the gospel through remembering some of John 19-20. Praise God for the opportunity! Please pray that I will get more and more opportunities and be bold to take them.

Edinburgh Youth Group (Praise)

A praise that I got to teach a lesson at youth group. Where I've been getting to help out and teach lessons every other time which has been a blessing to be involved.
This was the last youth group before I leave out next Monday the 28th. Please pray that God's Word will continue to work in their lives and that the youth group will grow in the Lord. Please pray for Pastor John Persaud that he can keep youth group going and that someone will be able to help him out such as Keyon in teaching lessons.
Praise God for His opportunities He gives.

Earnest Prayer Request

I have a earnest prayer request.
Today I shared from Mt. Sinai with 2 of the Hindu children Ravi and ShaBana. Lord willing tomorrow I will get to share with Pryia and perhaps Nick.

Ravi & ShaBana seemed to be bored it was probably due to how I was teaching them. However to make sure they understood that the LORD God is not the same god in three religions. I had ShaBana help me read back through Exodus 20:3, and part of 4. She understood I believe however it seems right now she is rejecting the truth. She would hardly talk to me after that.

Ravi on the other hand I hope understood but He did not seem to reject like she did, he perhaps seem to come closer to who Jesus is perhaps. Praise God!

Please pray for Ravi, ShaBana, Pryia, and Nick. Nick often tends to be somewhat spoiled. Please pray I can do a back lesson with Nick, and this lesson, also that I can do this lesson with Pryia. I hope to on Monday read through about Jesus death in John with them if I can.

Sunday School Encouragement

Greetings in Christ,
It has been encouraging to see the different ones helping out in the teaching of Sunday school.
Keyon has shown himself to be a leader. He helps in getting Sunday school started. He leads in singing and prayer. He also helps out in other areas.
Cindy has show herself to be a leader and a teacher as she steps up to the plate in going through questions for the lesson and in other areas.
This past Sunday it was encouraging to hear her as she adjusted one of the questions to be more Guyanese friendly. This helped the
children to understand it better. (Locals can do this much better than we can, we don't know the culture to the same depth as they do.)
Here she is going through a review sheet with Deolall.

Sandy helps out as well, she has also been involved in the lessons before. She also helps with going over the review sheets, and in other ways.
Keseyon and Trevon also help out in going through the review sheets and helping out in other ways.
They all probably do more than I realize, praise God for this!

Local Church Board Organization

Greetings,
-Today was a day of seeing more of the local church board organization here in the Berbice region of Guyana.
-We heard reports from various churches such as. Canje, Edinburgh, Tain, Nigg, Village 19, and one or two others.
-We also heard reports from a missionary couple on the field.
-It was a good time of fellowship with various leaders, through singing, reports,
even a bit of eating. Even a bit of fellowship while riding in the back of the Lorry to and from. We picked up two men from Canje Bible Church on our way there and dropped them and Pastor Jacob off.
-So often it can seem like one gets away in their own little nitch missing the big picture of what is going on.
Praise the Lord!

Greetings in Christ,
I grew up learning a lot of mechanics from my dad who is today a head mechanic at a shop. One things we used a lot of was tools. Different tools make different jobs easier and for those really tight places perhaps make a job a lot less painful. Without some tools you really can't do the job right.
A mechanic will find many tools for his trade depending on what piece of machinery he normally works on. A diesel mechanic will find a need for larger wrenches, sockets and ratchets. While a lawn mower mechanic will find need for smaller wrenches, spark plug sockets and ratchets.
I came here to Guyana hoping to learn more about Evangelism a necessary tool for any Christian whether a pastor, missionary, or in any field for a Christian. God has taught me a lot about that tool and even some different ways in how to use this tool.
I also was able to learn about chronologically teaching the Bible a necessary tool for a missionary or a church planter. A recommended tool for a pastor.
I've learned more about preaching a tool for a church planter, missionary and pastor.
Another tool that I learned more about was working with children, especially in a chronological approach. It is different trying to talk to children so they can understand and not right over their head.
Tuesday God brought me to another tool and that was a tool of being able to get Bibles a much needed resource. God brought us into contact with the United Bible Society right here in Guyana.
All of these tools God is still teaching me how to use. It has been very good to learn about so many tools while I've been here.
It would be interesting to see the different tools God is teaching each one of us to use while we are at home, while we are in Bible School perhaps, and perhaps as we step out into ministry.

A Season of Change

“In God's Timing – A Season of Change”

Ecclesiastes 3:1 -- God is in control of all seasons.

Time of Looking Back - March: As I look back over this past month, I remember my birthday in Guyana, yes I'm getting older. During March I enjoyed a time of meeting with other missionaries while we where in Georgetown, which was an encouraging time. I also remember an enjoyable time, meeting together on a daily basis as a church family during passion week. This was a good way to remember what the LORD Jesus Christ has done for us. He died for our sins. He was buried showing He truly was dead. It did not stop there Jesus came back from the dead because He is GOD.

Time of Disappointment: I remember during the month of March, the Hindus celebrating the Saturday before Resurrection Sunday. They where celebrating Phagwah. This picture shows partly how they celebrate their holiday. Why must a time of celebrating about what Jesus Christ has done be broken into by false worship?

Time of Change: I write this newsletter seeing changes in the near future. I am rapidly coming to the end of my stay in Guyana, South America. My date to fly back to the states is April 28, only a few days away. I look forward to seeing my family and friends back in the states.

However there are so many children that I have grown close to here. Please pray for their salvation. Please pray for Edinburgh Bible Church with whom I had the privilege of working alongside here in Guyana. Please pray that they will soon have their own land and church building. Please pray for Pastor John Persaud as he leads the flock at Edinburgh Bible Church. Please pray for John Cook as he continues to minister here. Please pray that another missionary will soon come alongside and help him here.

Time of Direction - April-May: I continue to seek the Lord's direction in ministry as I step off the field here. I plan to be in LaGrange, Wyoming area for a few days until graduation at Frontier School of the Bible on May 9^th. During this time I hope to visit a few supporters and encourage some friends.

After that time I plan on being at home with my family for a few days. Then I will be attending a candidate school for Tentmakers Bible Mission as an auditing participant. Why would I do this? I'm seeking the Lord's direction, specifically in the location and type of missionary activity. Then I get to go back home for a few more days. I'm so looking forward to spending time with my family.

Time of Direction - June: The Lord has opened an opportunity for me to see another type of missionary activity on a foreign field. Lord willing I will be going to Tarapoto, Peru during June 6-26, possibly longer. I am interested in looking into the church planting aspect of missions.

While in Guyana God gave me the privilege of learning greatly about the missions field from missionary John Cook. I learned greatly about Evangelism and specifically about Evangelizing using the chronological approach to the Bible. God has given me the privilege to learn and use concepts that I can use in whatever future ministry He may direct me into. I have many stories and wonderful lessons learned while here in Guyana. Please ask me sometime because I would love to share them with you.

Time of Prayer: Please continue to pray for the Lord's direction. Lord willing I plan on staying in full time ministry. I believe this is what God has called me to.

I am seeking God's direction in ministry. Perhaps it will be overseas or perhaps it will be in Utah. Perhaps it will be church planting or perhaps more of the kind of work I have done in Guyana. I am also seeking God's will in a mission board, One-Way Evangelistic Ministries has been a very good mission board for me. We will see how God leads, perhaps another board that engages in church planting if God directs me that way. Either way One-Way has worked with me in my learning about ministry and has taught me a great deal. Praise God for this. I know God knows where He will take me. Please pray that I will be faithful to Him daily.
